Georgia Storm Season Insurance Checklist

Georgia sees its share of severe storms, high winds, and hail — and the best time to prepare your insurance is before a storm hits, not after. Here's a simple checklist.

1. Know what your policy actually covers

Confirm whether your policy covers wind and hail damage, and whether you have a separate (often higher) deductible specifically for wind/hail events, which is common in storm-prone areas.

2. Document your home and belongings now

Take photos or a video walkthrough of your home, including valuables, and store them somewhere outside your house (cloud storage, email to yourself, or a family member's house). This makes any future claim faster and more accurate.

3. Simple prep steps that reduce risk

  • Trim tree limbs that hang over your roof or power lines
  • Clean gutters so water doesn't back up during heavy rain
  • Secure or store outdoor furniture and grills before a storm
  • Know where your water shutoff valve is in case of pipe damage

4. What to do immediately after a storm

Take photos of any damage before you clean up or make repairs, keep receipts for any emergency repairs (like a tarp on a damaged roof), and contact your agent as soon as it's safe to do so — don't wait to see if it "seems bad enough" to report.

Want a quick review of your storm coverage before the season ramps up? We're happy to check your policy at no cost.
